Pa'ina 2007

Some of the members of the NE Club of Hawaii gathered together for an annual Pa'ina at Nancy's hale. Outside the temps were cold but inside the Kingston, NH hale, conversation and laughter were warm! Add to that a fun Yankee swap with Hawaiiana gifts and ono kine kau kau! I've included photos taken by H. Tsai in this slideshow....enjoy!

Warm aLoHas!

Listening to my hawaiian music as I type this makes me forget about the snow storm outside. The doorbell rang earlier and at the door was the UPS man with my special delivery...a brand new, premium soap cutter! I quickly grabbed a can of Mauna Loa Honey Roasted Macadamia Nuts. As I took my delivery from him, I handed him the can and said Mele Kalikimaka. He looked at the can and his face lit up and he shouted "thanks!" With that I replied, "Aloha!" and shut the door! I took a photo earlier out my front window of my street. Warm Alohas from the east coast!

Pearl Harbor Remembered

On this day, 66 years ago, my parents were children growing up in Hawaii. My mom was only 2 years old, but my dad was 9 years old and remembers very well what he saw on that Sunday morning.

Dad's father, my late grandfather, worked in the pineapple fields everyday he could as he had 7 children to support. They were not well off and lived in a tiny house in Kahuku on the island of Oahu.

On that Sunday morning my grandfather had gone to work, like any other morning, while it was dark out. My dad said that when they found out that Pearl Harbor was being bombed, my grandfather came home from work and they painted all the glass windows on their house black. My father still remembers hearing the Japanese fighters overhead and hearing them sputtering in the distance as they ran out of gas over the ocean.

Before the Pearl Harbor Memorial Visitor Center section was renovated, I worked at one of the small stands selling pennies to the tourists. We'd put a penny through the flattening machine and it would flatten the penny while inscribing the USS Arizona Memorial on the other side of the flattened penny. I had learned a little bit of Japanese because a majority of the tourists that came to visit the USS Arizona Memorial were from Japan.

Took a ride down to Boston today. Followed hula Nancy to pick up Al at his place in the North End and then we headed over to the Boston Flower Exchange. There were many wholesale vendors some of which sold Ti leaf bunches, Monstera leafs, Bird of Paradise, Protea, various orchids, bamboo and ferns. I bought a bunch of ti leafs and Nancy bought some palms, ti leaf and tropical sprays for decorating the pa`ina at her place.

New Things To Come!

Aloha Pumehana! Hope everyone is having a safe and happy holidays! There are new things to come for East Coast Tropics in the New Year of 2008.

1) East Coast Tropics will be on holiday vacation and will be closed December 16, 2007 thru Janauary 2, 2008. Nope, not going to Oahu for the holidays, although I sure wish I were! *L* Orders will be taken during this time and will be processed starting 1/3/2008.

2) There is a new Bargains page up and running on the site. Forever Lost and Tiare soaps are on sale as they will be discontinued in 2008. They are still available within our gift sets. Also, added to the Bargains page is the Bag Of Soap Scraps. I have no idea what scent these little critters are, but they're made of the same ingredients as the Aloha Soaps and they'll clean ya right up. Check it out at: http://eastcoasttropics.com/bargains.html

3) Starting January 1, 2008 Aloha Soaps will no longer be offered at quantity discounts and will be priced at $4.50 per bar. Aloha Soaps will be available in quantity discounts through the Arts & Crafts Shows that I participate in. 2008 schedule at: http://eastcoasttropics.com/Appear.html

If you place an order for Aloha Soaps during ECT vacay, you will get the soaps at the quantity discounted price listed on the website.

4) Aloha Soaps will also be getting a new look. No longer will they be "wavy cut" but instead, will be straight sliced. They will be packaged in shrink wrap and a new label. The ends of the shrink wrap are left opened so that the soap can breath and its scent can be enjoyed.

5) I will be offering Aloha Soaps wholesale to gift shops. If you know of a gift shop in your area that would be interested in carrying Aloha Soaps, please have them contact me through:
http://eastcoasttropics.com/wholesaleinfo.html

6) There will be free gifts with orders of $50 or more. The shopping cart is set up for free shipping on orders over $100. And in 2008, the shopping cart will be set up for a 10% discount on orders of $250 or more.
